The NTSWA oversees many curbside recycling programs. These are geared to collect materials which have been source separated by residents in the home. A curbside truck makes routine stops at residences in areas with curbside recycling. A blue recycling box is placed at the curb and materials collected are transported back to the NTSWA Recyclable Processing Centers (See corresponding Tour Page).
Since the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania is very rural, drop-off locations have been established for collection of recyclables. Amplirol hoist trucks are used to deliver recycling containers to sponsoring municipalities or organizations on specified days or weekends per month. Recyclable materials are placed, source separated, into the containers provided and then collected by these trucks for transport back to the Recyclable Processing Centers.
Over 10 larger roll-off trucks are utilized to collect construction and demolition wastes from Bradford, Sullivan and Tioga Counties, Pennsylvania. Residents and private contractors can rent containers to complete construction and demolition work like roofing and renovation projects.
The NTSWA owns and operates a modern mechanical street sweeping unit. This is used to keep landfill access roads clean and is available for rent to municipalities and the private sector. Municipalities can rent this unit with a driver for a reduced rate. This has proven to be a very popular service provided by the Authority.
The NTSWA utilizes over 14 packer trucks to collect limited residential and commercial wastes from the area. One such contract is with Elkland Borough in Tioga County. The NTSWA is providing these services for Elkland at a savings over previous year’s contracts. These packer trucks are equipped with on-board scales that allow the driver to record the exact amount of refuse being generated from each entity.
